Tra i non protagonisti, i favoriti sembrano Christian Bale ( The Fighter ) e l’esordiente Haileen Steinfield, per la sua ragazza cowboy in Il Grinta . Il film dei Coen qualcosa porteranno a casa.
Toy Story 3 sembra non avere rivali tra i film di animazione, anche se L’illusionista di Sylvain Chomet su un vecchio soggetto di Jacques Tati è davvero notevole.
Sfida accesa per il miglior film straniero: parte in vantaggio Biutiful di Alejandro Inarritu, ma qualche chance ce l’hanno anche Hors la loi di Rachid Bouchareb e In un mondo migliore della danese Susanne Bier, vincitrice ai Golden Globe. Mancano due grandi film: Des hommes et des dieux di Xavier Beauvois e L’uomo che verrà di Giorgio Diritti. Il francese è stato ignominiosamente escluso dai giurati dell’Academy, l’italiano è stato autoescluso dai luminari del nostro Paese.
